A prophecy emanating from the mystery of the healing oil

This article describes messages to the world that Sister Raquel says she has received in the last few months.

In 1991, Sister Raquel Reodica, RVM, received her gift of healing a week after the Mount Pinatubo eruption, one of the biggest disasters in Philippine history. A typhoon scattered the volcanic ash in the stratosphere all the way to the Antarctic, disrupting data of a US global-warming research station there. The station reported that the effect was so immense that there was a momentary cooling of the Earth.

During that week, a woman she had never met, approached her, and, claiming to see visions, told her she would eventually receive a second gift, the gift of prophecy, or the ‘third eye’. First, she found the notion preposterous, then later scary. In September 2009, close to two decades later, this gift of prophecy began to manifest itself during an equally-deadly disaster period – three consecutive typhoons, Ondoy, Ramil and Pepeng, which rendered hundreds of thousands homeless in Metro-Manila, Baguio and Pangasinan.

On September 25, 2009, one day before Ondoy swept through Metro-Manila, Sister Raquel unlocked the gates of the adoration chapel of the Mother Ignacia Healing Ministry at 6 a.m., and discovered pools of oil which mysteriously appeared on the marble floor. She collected the oil in a towel and used if for healing. There were dramatic cases of instant healings. For one, Edwin Reyes, afflicted with brain tumor, within days, stood up from his wheelchair and started jumping and dancing, which was caught on camera. See part 2 below.

When typhoon Ramil threatened Ilocos days after Ondoy, Sister Raquel and chaplain Father Tiofilo fell on their knees in prayer, pleading to the Lord to spare the Philippines. Curiously, two high pressure areas sandwiched Ramil, which weakend into a tropical depression and veered towards Taiwan.

During the Pinatubo eruption, the situation was exactly the same. Philvolcs reported that a second eruption was imminent when steam vents were increasing at the crater. Sister Raquel and a handul of RVM nuns prayed for the Lord to spare the Philippines. That second eruption never occurred. Skeptics, of course, argued it was not prayers, just Nature. But other believed prayers pre-empted a second disaster. The power of prayer is the theme of Sister Raquel’s messages described here. Was it an odd coincidence that Ondoy unleashed was followed by Ramil averted, just like the first eruption unleashed and a second averted? Does this reveal a God of mercy and punishment all at once?

On November 6, 2009, a First Friday, oil appeared once again, more profuse than ever. This time the pools of oil were neatly positioned in nine equidistant lines from the back of the chapel to the altar. High resolution photos were taken by the Sisters before the oil dried up.

This healing oil became the basis of Sister Raquel’s claim of messages from the Lord for the world. She did not hear ‘voices’, she simply ‘felt’ the messages overwhelm her consciousness, which she found hard to described.

-

It must be clarified that in 2001, Sister Raquel spoke of impending earthquakes in the Philippines. She gave a broad time period, not an exact date. But by the time the news hit front page, an exact date given by a woman who frequented the healing center, was erroneously attributed to her. When no earthquake came on that date, she became the subject of criticism. Her published reply was too late, the damage was done. Today, she is willing to take the risk of facing critics because she says the Lord wants these message conveyed.

Sister Raquel’s emerging messages are as follows. First, the nine lines of oil refer to nine years (2009 to 2018) that the Lord is giving mankind to change its ways. This a ‘deadline’. Second, Sister spoke of the urgency for the rich, comprising 3% of Philippine population to give to the poor which comprises about 70%. This virtue of sharing is not an option, it is an obligation. Sister says the Lord is not requesting but demanding that everyone must start helping others, praying harder, and renewing lives in Him. She cites the gentle and harsh words of Jesus in Matthew 25:35 – “Come, blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom, for I was hungry and you gave me food … Depart from Me, you accursed, into eternal fire for I was hungry and you gave me no food.”

Third, Sister cites the third secret of Fatima, mentioning a ‘global earthquake’ occurring worldwide simultaneously if man does not change his ways. She cautions that her aim is not to sow panic but to sow prayer. It took the Church decades to finally reveal the third secret in fear the harsh predictions would sow panic. Alas, there was no panic. We have all but forgotten the terrible forewarnings in the third secret.

Fourth, sister spoke of the power of prayer which can avert disasters. Disasters are ‘negotiable’. We can bargain with prayer and good deeds. She cites how the Lord spared the affluent city of Nineveh because it repented in its decadent ways. She cites how the Lord would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah if one holy person there was found there. Alas, they were burnt to the ground.

She also cites the story of how a small Jesuit resident just a few hundred meters from ground zero of the Hiroshima nuclear blast in World War II remained mysteriously untouched. At that time, the residents were praying the rosary.

Fifth, certain pools of oil were shaped like the map of the Philippines. But the Visayas was oddly found separate from Luzon and Mindanao. Sister says this means the Visayas could be spared because the Lord is pleased. Is this because of the annual celebration of Sinulog dedicated to the Santo Nino or Holy Child?

Sixth, Sister Raquel explains that there were ‘three rays of light’ falling on the Philippine map (the pools of oil shaped into its map). She says, “It is not an accident that we have millions of OFWs scattered worldwide. The Lord will use them to evangelize the whole world. The have a role to play.” Filipino priests among OFWs have ‘a challenging work’.

Sister clarifies that people are not obliged to believe her. Faith is a gift and belief is of the free will. But there is nothing to lose in listening to the warnings, old warnings we have forgotten (the third secret) and everything to gain in renewing life in the Lord.

Today is an era of global warming, intensifying typhoons and hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis, forest fires and floods, droughts, and swine and avian flu. Legalized abortion is now financed by governments. Materialism has intensified into a plague that haunts rich and poor countries. Corporate greed has triggered a global financial meltdown. It is in this backdrop that these messages of prayer and renewal are being conveyed.

It is strange how the Third Secret of Fatima is today surrounded by deceptions and attacks from anti-Marians who undermine its true message. For example, a History Channel documentary claimed that part of the Third Secret is still secret, that only 25 of the 62 lines of the original manuscript was revealed. This is not true. The anti-Marians say that praying to Our Lady is a form of idolatry, an ‘abomination’. The reply of Marian devotees is simple – we pray to Our Lady not as a God, but as a human bridge to God.

 

An email letter, which has been circulating many times over for years, says only blessed candles can be lit during the three days of darkness. Neither blessed candles nor the three days of darkness are mentioned in the original Fatima messages. The apparent intent was to distract us and make us focus on external rituals so that we forget the essence of the message, namely, a return to the Lord, which will save us from calamity, not the lighting of candles.

 

The misleading email is littered with a complex set of quotes and sub-quotes until you can no longer distinguish what Our Lady is saying and what the anonymous author is adding. It is an ingenious subtle form of deception. It speaks of ”a great earthquake ten minutes before midnight going for eight hours and will tilt the earth’s axis 23 degrees”. There are no such exact scientific data in the Third Secret.

 

The email says, “once (God’s punishment) has started, you should not look outside under any circumstance!!!!”. The intent is to instill the wrong kind of fear, fear of penalty for transgressing a meaningless rule. True fear of the Lord involves prayer and good deed.

 

The original Third Secret transcript does not speak so much of hellfire and brimstone, as many think. The most doomsay text that visionary Sister Lucia wrote goes, “We saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’.” This passage explains that Marian intervention can save the world from disasters, but ony through constant penance.

 

Marian Interventions against disasters

 

According to Vatican Fatima scholars in the Vatican, there have been three such Marian interventions on potential disasters. The first was the Cuban crisis in 1961, the closest mankind had to a nuclear confrontation. The second was the two averted attempts to assassinate Pope John Paul II, circa 1981. The Third Secret referred to a “bishop in white”, whom Sister Lucia later would say was Pope John Paul II, who would be saved from assassination. Archbishop Emeritus of Vercelli Tarcisio Bertone, SDB, later reported that the Pope was saved by ”a Mother’s hand that guided the bullet’s path”. The Pope later gave the bullet to the Bishop of Leiria-Fatima who placed it in the crown of Our Lady of Fatima. Anti-Marians argue that there were no such Marian interventions. Events simply happened. The belief in Marian interventions is a matter of faith. No one is obliged to believe.

 

About half a dozen Popes since 1917 refused to reveal the Third Secret for more than 8 decades. Pope John Paul II, the first non-Italian Pope for centuries, known as the ‘Fatima Pope’, finally revealed it in 2002. It seemed that the many Popes kept the message secret not in fear of sowing panic but because of the “bishop dressed in white”, a Pope who would be slain.

 

In 1981, Pope John Paul II consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which was Our Lady’s request in one of her earlier Fatima messages as a precondition for world peace. After that, for the first time, a Russian leader, Gorbachev, visited the papacy, where he was touched by his dialogue with Pope John Paul II.

 

Three important events ensued. First, Gorbachev instituted détente as a unilateral policy towards establishing peace with the West. This led to the eventual break up of the Russian empire, and the end of the cold war. Second, Gorbachev opened up the churches in Russia and ended decades of suppression of the Church. Third, the break up of the Berlin Wall in 1989 signaled the last of many events easing tensions between the US and Russia. All these were considered by Fatima scholars as a Marian intervention against wars.

 

Can Prayers Avert World War III?

 

In the theology of sin and punishment, prophecies have an big ‘if’. They are premised on the fact that Man fails to return to the Lord. If he returns to the Lord, then grim prophecies can be reversed or deferred. For example, the Lord told the prophet Jonah to tell that the people of Nineveh that the city would be destroyed, if they would not repent. The affluent trade city of Nineveh was the New York City of biblical times. Nineveh returned to the Lord and was spared. This was the opposite in Sodom and Gomorrah.  The Lord said, if there was but one holy person remaining, he would spare the twin cities. There was none. He destroyed them in fulfillment of the prophecy.

 

The Fatima First Secret describes a vision of hell to scare us to the urgency for prayer and conversion, according to Sister Lucia. Our Lady says, “You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end (World War I); but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one (World War II) will break out during the Pontificate of Pius XI.” It seems there were no Marian interventions in the two world wars, perhaps because there was no return of Man to the Lord.

 

Is God ready to strike as in Sodom and Gomorrah or ready to forgive as in Nineveh? In my personal experience, as I prayed with Sister Eva at the home of a visionary of Our Lady of Grace and Peace in San Francisco del Monte, she went into a sudden trance and convulsion. Instantly, her voice changed to a deeper tone, and said “I can no longer hold off the hand of my Son. Pray, pray, pray.”

 

The increasing frequency and intensity of disasters lately tend to point to the God of wrath overwhelming the God of mercy – Katrina, Irene, mega-tsunamis in Japan and Jakarta, mega-earthquakes in Peru and China, floods and forest fires everywhere, powerful weather disturbances due to climate change, and so on.

 

One such disaster was 9-11. God can actually permit evil to reign because we ignore Him. The similarity of the twin towers of New York to the twin towers of Babylon is awesome. They are both twin towers. They both represent the sin of pride, the arrogance of man believing he does not need God. 9-11 is more than just a crime by terrorist enemies. It is a message for us to return to God.

 

Today, Iran-Syria-Israel or Pakistan-India are easily the core of a new powderkeg that may evolve into a possible World War III. All that is needed is a small short fuse, when all of us are asleep. Can we still avert disasters? Can we still invoke Marian intervention through prayers and penance? Can Our Lady still hold off the Angel of Fire and the hand of her Son? Or are we hopelessly now in the era of the ‘end times’? It is up to all of us. Only Mankind’s actions can change the big ‘if’.

 

“Return to me with your whole heart, with fasting weeping and mourning. Rend your hearts not your garments. Return to me your Lord your God. For gracious and merciful am I, slow to anger, rich in kindness, relenting in punishment.” (Joel 2:12-13).

Pope Benedict has finally given a proper reply, “forgiveness is not a substitute for justice”. It is an admittance of guilt and an act of humility. Now, the controversy can be laid to rest, but only if there is the final act of the Church telling all and surrendering the guilty to the authorities. Until that is done, there is no justice.

-

Earlier, the Pope had dialogues with victims and their families, which failed to exonerate the Church. In fact, it made the Church look more guilty. Apology was not the issue, but justice.

-

Earlier, many came to the rescue of the Pope but their defenses, although eloquent and articulate, skirted around the issue of culpability and admittance of guilt. It had the same effect of making the Church more guilty. All the ‘nice’ arguments made the Church position worse. It was the Pope’s final reply which saved the day for the Church.

-

For example, French historian Alain Besancon “noted that the media campaign against the Holy Father and the Church reveals a hatred for Christianity, and that the Pope is confronting the ‘self-destruction’ of society, nature and reason” (CNN/EWTN News, April 20, 2010, L’Observatore Romano). This is a very bad fallacious argument. There is no ‘media campaign against the Holy Father and the Church’. The Church brought it upon itself to be a subject of the media.

There is no ‘hatred for Christianity’. The Church is not beyond criticism. It is capable of human errors. Criticism is not ‘hatred’ and is in fact not only good but necessary to catalyze reforms, to cleanse the Church. There is no ‘self-destruction’ of society. Let us not call a spade a clover. They are twisting the issue of the Church guilty of cover-up. The Pope’s admittance is in truth the saving grace for the Church, not these false arguments, these futile attempts to save the image of the Church.

Besancon further said, “Benedict XVI has fought untiringly for clarity and accuracy. For him there is nothing more dangerous than the relativism that is fused with modern democratic society: any organized group can legitimize an opinion merely because it is their opinion without the need to support it with reason,” This is intellectual gibberish attempting to put the blame on ‘relativism’ … of ‘democratic society’. The opinion is not ‘organized’ and is not being ‘legitimized’. It is supported with reason, namely, cover up of crimes.

There was a lengthy homily by a priest who said the lesson is for us to focus ourselves on ‘holiness’ once again. True. But no, the lesson is for us to not cover up crimes and to bring justice to the victims, which is the essence of holiness based on justice.

-

It is about time the Church gets its act together. The Church is as much human as it is divine. Throughout history, it has faltered (Reformation) then surged forward (Counter Reformation). There is the human aspect of error and correction, of stumbling then standing up once again. The age of darkness in the Church is followed by the age light in a cyclic manner throughout history. The Church has to solve the case of pedophile priests once and for all and launch a new spiritual reformation at the parish level, otherwise a new crisis will haunt it. There is no escape. Every stone will not be left unturned.

The Lord will appreciate this new spiritual reformation. Let us not be obsessed with the image of the Church tarnished. Let it be tarnished if it is indeed tarnished. Let us untarnish it with justice and transparency. Sweeping it under the rug will not untarnish it but tarnish it more. Let us confront the problem, not go around it.

OVER LUNCH, SISTER AND I STARTED CONVERSING ABOUT THE HEALING MINISTRY.

BERNIE

Sister, how are you doing in the evening calls from those seeking healing. Can you handle so many calls worldwide? How many calls do you get average anyway per day?

-

SR RAQUEL

I get about three.

-

BERNIE

That’s not so bad.

-

SR RAQUEL

But you must realize, Bernie, these are not ordinary calls. They require a lot of energy even over the phone. After three calls, I have to rest and recharge, otherwise I cannot be effective. In fact, three is enough. It is hard for me to refuse a call even if I am tired. When I hear over the phone someone who cannot breathe, how can I refuse even if I am tired? My conscience says ‘forget your tiredness’.

-

The other sisters know this, so they help in my dilemma by handling the calls. They look at me and signal non-verbally if I can take one more call. At least I have the option to say yes or no according to my disposition. In many cases, we ask them to call back in an hour or tomorrow, and they do.

BERNIE

You can do only so much, Sister. At times, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I understand there are many more callers but you answer the phone only in specific hours. Understandable, you cannot answer calls 24 hours a day.

-

SR RAQUEL

Yes, but remember Jesus is reaching out to them through us. We have a role of being a bridge. This is what we should never forget, Bernie, when wehelp even just one person, and their family, that is a lot. You don’t have to help dozens and hundreds, although that is better if you can. One is enough. We are pleasing to the Lord bringing one soul to Him.

Yes, I suppose it is like the Shepherd leaving the 99 to look for the one.

SR RAQUEL

Imagine, a person who is terminally sick and dying, is suddenly alive again, cancer-free. No more hardship in chemo. Savings of thousands even millions of pesos that can be used for the family. No more waiting in long lines in the hospital everyday. No more tension. The family is happy. And the most important is the spiritual healing, not the physical. The ministry brings people to Jesus. They have changed their lives after they are healed. They become more gentle in their relationships. The become more patient and giving. They begin praying more often, and talking to Jesus. They begin to live a life in the Lord. That is a lot, Bernie. Just to help one is a lot. The Lord is so happy and we are pleasing to Him. That is what our ministry is all about. And these people from across the world know about us through the Internet. How about our website? How is it doing?

Prayer requests have doubled since two months ago. Before, we publish about 20 every two weeks. Now it is up to 40.

Yes, I know. I receive your bulletins regularly.

Sometimes I am moved to tears just reading all the pain and suffering of people. All of a sudden, my pains seem so insignificant and I am so lucky. The same with Freddie (our IT volunteer). He says that, as a prayer warrior, reading the prayer request bulletins has changed his life. It is a form of meditation and inspiration to pray for people who are on the verge of despair. Indeed, the prayer warriors know that their participation in the ministry through their prayers is what uplifts them and heals them, this feeling that you are helping others, of giving hope to the desperate.

Praying for others, for the sick and desperate is a main concern of our ministry. So you know how important and crucial the Internet is to our ministry. In one click, we are global. I receive calls from Russia, Europe. Sometimes they have an English interpreter. So many people worldwide need help.

There is this woman with brain cancer from California. She found out about us through the Internet. She has this unbearable headache and she is losing her eyesight rapidly. She is here right now as a stay-in. She traveled all the way from California just to ask the Lord to heal her. In one day, her headache was gone. In three days, her vision started improving.

We don’t know yet. She has to have a new check-up. But definitely, the cancer symptoms are slowly going away.

TRYING TO RECALL MY CONVERSATION WITH SISTER RAQUEL, I BEGAN TO REALIZE THAT PERHAPS THE MINISTRY, THROUGH ITS MEMBERS, CAN FORM PRAYER WARRIOR ‘CHAPTERS’ WORLDWIDE. THE CHAPTERS, LED BY ONE VOLUNTEER MEMBER WHO STEPS FORWARD, CAN RECRUIT OTHER MEMBERS FROM THEIR COMMUNITY. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BIG. A CHAPTER OF TEN PEOPLE IS ENOUGH. THEY CAN REFER TERMINAL CASES TO THE MINISTRY, EVEN JUST BY TELEPHONE. AND THEY CAN EVEN MEET AND PRAY TOGETHER IF THEY HAVE THE TIME. MAYBE ONE DAY, WE CAN ASK ALL PRAYER WARRIORS TO COME TO THE CENTER AND MEET EACH OTHER.

MORE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE MINISTRY FROM WEBSITE MEMBERS AND PRAYER WARRIORS IS PERHAPS THE NEXT STEP.
