THE HOPE FORMULA

despair is more prevalent than hope
discouragement more than encouragement

let us talk to Him to give us hope

BIBLE LESSON

God was angry because israel
embraced the god baal of the midianites
as a consequence the midianites
held them in bondage
-
God sent an emissary to gideon
whose brothers the midianites killed
telling him that he would
defeat the midianites in battle
-
God ordered gideon to replace
the altar for baal owned by his father joash
with one for Jehovah
and offered a sacrifice there
-
the angry Israelites wanted to kill him
joash said ‘if baal is truly a god
let him avenge himself’
and so gideon was spared
-
gideon assembled an army of 32,000
God said they were too many
they will only attribute their victory
to their own strength, not to their God
-
gideon trimmed the army to 300
and attacked the midianites
at night using trumpets and torches
to sow fear and panic
-
in the confusion
the midianites fought each other
and gideon’s army prevailed
for the rest of his life, Israel was in peace
